Teacher user guide
Use your teacher workspace to prepare lessons, view assigned children, manage weekly one-on-ones, join Google Meet and record attendance and feedback. The administrator creates your account and assigns children.
Open Sign InGetting your account and signing in
- Ask the administrator for your teacher sign-in email and temporary password. Teachers do not use parent registration.
- Open the website and select Sign In, or visit /learn/index.php?r=login.
- Enter your teacher email and password. The portal opens your Live Lessons workspace.
- Find Change my password, enter your current password and a new 6–10 character password with at least one capital letter and one number, then select Update Password.
- Keep your credentials private and select Sign Out when using a shared device.
On mobile, tap the purple Menu button to open the website-style dropdown. Select a page to continue, or press Menu again to close it.
On Sign In, enter your email/username and password. Use the eye icon at the right of any password field to show or hide your password.
Your workspace shows upcoming sessions, assigned children’ progress, session history, weekly timetable and teaching materials. You can see only the children assigned to you. Admin can see and manage all accounts.
Back to topPreparing a lesson and reviewing progress
- Open Children & progress and expand your assigned child. Check the age group, access date, watched time, completed lessons and reflections.
- Open Teaching materials and select Preview Lesson for a published lesson.
- Watch the video, review the activity for the child’s age group, check the knowledge question and plan a practical example.
- Ask the parent to support younger children and check that the child has a suitable device and internet connection.
The four beginner courses are Digital Literacy, Online Safety, Coding Foundations and AI Foundations. Ages 6–8 need parent-guided activities; older children work with increasingly independent examples. Staff previews show the teaching video, activities, correct quiz answer and reflection prompt without writing child progress.
Back to topSetting and changing weekly sessions
The administrator must first assign the child to you. You can then update that child’s weekly timetable. Agree changes with the parent before saving them.
- Sign into your Google account. At meet.google.com, use New meeting to create a meeting for later, or create a recurring Calendar event with Meet conferencing.
- Copy a private plain URL such as https://meet.google.com/abc-defg-hij. Use a different link for each child.
- In the portal, open Weekly timetable and expand the assigned child.
- Enter the first future one-hour lesson time in Kenya time, paste the Google Meet link and enter the lesson topic.
- Select Save Weekly One-on-Ones. Review the upcoming sessions and confirm the time with the parent.
The child must have active paid access for the full hour. The system allows one session per child each Monday–Sunday week and blocks timetable overlaps. Up to 12 future weekly sessions are created within the paid period. Renewals add more dates when the portal is opened.
Updating the timetable replaces future scheduled bookings. Cancel this session cancels one occurrence. Stop weekly timetable stops future recurrence and cancels future bookings. Ask admin to restart a stopped timetable. Completed sessions stay in history; cancelled weeks remain cancelled.
Back to topJoining and teaching the one hour session
- Sign into the portal shortly before the lesson and open Upcoming sessions.
- Check the child, topic and Kenya time. The Join Google Meet button becomes available 10 minutes before the start.
- Select Join Google Meet. Google opens in another tab; allow camera and microphone access when asked.
- Join using the Google account that owns the meeting. Admit the assigned child, their parent and authorised school staff.
- Teach the session, then close the Google call when finished. Return to the portal for attendance and feedback.
Suggested lesson plan
| Time | Suggested activity |
|---|---|
| First 10 minutes | Greet the child, review their previous work and agree today’s goal. |
| Next 15 minutes | Explain and demonstrate one concept with an age-appropriate example. |
| Next 25 minutes | Let the child try a practical task while you guide and ask questions. |
| Final 10 minutes | Review the result, agree practice for the week and explain the next step. |
The portal’s button closes at the scheduled end, but it does not automatically end a Google meeting or remove someone already admitted. Use Google’s host controls for access. Do not share a child’s link with other families. The portal does not record calls or transcribe the lesson.
Back to topAttendance feedback and tests
- Wait until the scheduled session end has passed. Open Session history and find the session.
- Expand Record attendance and feedback.
- Choose present, absent or excused based on what actually happened.
- Write a short, constructive note explaining what the child tried, what improved and one next action. Do not include unnecessary private details.
- Select Save feedback. The note is visible to the parent and child.
Join-button clicks are not proof of attendance. Check actual participation before choosing present. Cancelled sessions cannot be marked completed.
Children take their own course tests while signed in with their child username. They need to watch at least 80% of the video, get the Tap the best answer practice right, attempt the age-group activity, answer the Quick check correctly, confirm the activity and write a reflection. Encourage them to explain their answer rather than completing the test for them.
Teacher feedback is separate from automated course completion. Staff previews do not mark a child’s test or course complete. Drawing-board work and coding-playground experiments stay in the child’s browser unless the drawing is saved to their device; there is no assignment upload or automatic practical grading in this release.
Back to topTroubleshooting and first session practice
| Problem | Next action |
|---|---|
| No assigned children | Ask admin to assign a child and set the initial weekly timetable. |
| Cannot save the timetable | Check active membership, future date, a full hour before expiry, valid Meet URL and conflicts. |
| Join button missing | Check the 10-minute window, session status, child membership and teacher access. |
| Google will not admit participants | Join as the meeting owner and check Google’s admission settings. |
| Feedback form unavailable | Wait until the scheduled end. Cancelled sessions cannot be completed. |
| Forgot password or disabled account | Contact admin for a verified reset or access review. |
Before your first real lesson, practise signing in, previewing a lesson, checking child progress and finding your session. Test your camera, microphone and screen sharing in Google Meet with an adult colleague.
For help use WhatsApp +254 729 175 634 or info@thefuturefounderslab.org. Include the child name, session date and error message privately. Never share your password or ask a child for their parent’s M-Pesa PIN.
Back to topGetting help with account access
The school administrator can suspend or restore account access, set a replacement password or email a password-reset link after verifying your identity. Teacher links go to the teacher email; child links go to the verified parent. Links expire after one hour and work once. A password reset does not restore suspended access or extend a membership. Suspending a parent also blocks their children. Contact support if sign-in stops working.
Manual copy
Download Teacher ManualCompact child progress lists
Your assigned children appear in compact expandable rows, ten per page. Search and filter by age or membership status, then Apply. Choose Previous or Next to navigate, or Clear to reset filters. Expand a child to review their progress. Filters do not let you access children assigned to another teacher.
Parent enrollment and verification
Parents now enter their details, save all children, pay for each child and submit registration before email verification. Payment approval and parent email verification are both required before child sign-in, courses and session joins. If a child cannot access the portal, ask their parent to finish verification and contact the administrator to review payment.
Reset your own password
- Open Sign In and select Forgot your password?.
- Enter the email saved on your parent, teacher or administrator account and select Send Reset Link.
- Check your inbox and spam folder, open the link and choose a unique new password of 6–10 characters, including at least one capital letter and one number.
- Sign in with the new password. Previous signed-in sessions are invalidated.
Links last one hour, work once and can be requested again after five minutes. The page gives the same response for unknown, blocked and eligible accounts. Suspended parents, teachers and admins cannot receive or use reset links. Disabled teachers must first be enabled by the administrator.
Unverified parents can recover their password and resume enrollment. A password reset does not verify email, approve payment, extend membership or restore suspended access. Children continue to use parent/admin assistance rather than the public reset request page. If email delivery fails or you cannot access the saved inbox, contact school support. SMTP must be configured.
Parent demo account
Select Click Here to Try Demo during parent signup, or open /learn/demo.php. Select Click Here to Try Demo on the welcome screen to enter the sample parent dashboard. No signup, payment or email verification is needed.
Parent Dashboard highlights Child Classroom, Weekly One-on-Ones and Progress & Reports. View the sample child, play the real digital-literacy sample lesson and answer the demo check to see sample progress change. Weekly One-on-Ones displays a fictional timetable, feedback and joining-flow preview; it does not open a real teacher call.
The demo lasts one hour and uses fictional children and sample records. Reset Demo Progress resets only the sample check. Exit Demo returns to the demo welcome screen. Demo visitors cannot access real child records, meetings, payments or administration. The demo is separate from the real account Sign In page.
To enroll, select Enroll Your Child and complete parent details, child details, payment and email verification. Demo exploration does not enroll a child or approve payment. Existing real account sessions are kept separate.
Review projects and demonstrated skills
Open Projects & Feedback to see only your currently assigned children. Expand a submitted project, inspect its saved notes, drawing or code and use Run submitted prototype for a web project. Assess purpose, accuracy or functionality, testing, reflection and safe communication. Give specific feedback, a score from 0–100 and either Skills demonstrated or Revision requested. The parent receives a queued notification.
Drafts can be viewed but cannot be graded until submitted. Children who change reviewed work must submit it for review again. All eight lessons and a final project reviewed at 70 or above unlock that course’s school certificate. Lesson completion alone measures participation. Check the entry assessment and course progress before recommending an extension.
Teach the expanded pathways
The school includes four foundation video courses and eight guided project paths: Digital Creativity, Web & Game Development, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Communication & Personal Branding, Problem Solving, and Portfolio & Capstone. New paths are interactive workshops rather than recorded teacher videos. Use younger children’s drawings and spoken explanations with parent help; ask older children for tests, trade-offs and improved prototypes.
Missed sessions and timetable changes
Open Session requests to review absence reasons and makeup requests for your assigned sessions. Reply Agreed or Declined with clear next steps. An agreed request does not create a booking; update the timetable in Live Lessons and confirm the actual time. Updating a schedule retains cancelled booking history and queues a parent notification. Record attendance and useful feedback after a session ends; a Join click alone is not proof of attendance.
Your teacher access email
The admin creates your account and sends a private one-use access link. Open it within one hour to choose your password, then sign in using your teacher email. If the link expires, use Forgot your password or ask the admin to resend. Never forward the access link. Suspended or deleted accounts cannot use it.
Find and review child projects
Open Projects & Portfolio. Search the compact child list and filter to Awaiting review. Ten children appear per page; teachers see only their currently assigned children. Select Open portfolio, then search projects or choose a review status. Ten projects appear per page. Expand a project to inspect the work and save feedback. Use Back to child portfolios to return to the list.
